Thomas Muhmenthaler - shaping leadership where it matters most!
Thomas Muhmenthaler is the founder, Managing Partner, and co-owner of Viavanta. For more than 25 years, he has advised companies on appointments to key executive and board positions, working with organizations ranging from owner-managed SMEs to international corporate groups.
For Thomas, executive search does not end with a successful appointment. He focuses on lasting solutions that align the right personality with the business context and future needs of an organization. This long-term perspective also defines his relationships with senior leaders, many of whom he has advised throughout their careers. The trust built over time has made him a valued partner on career, strategic, and business matters.
His advisory work extends well beyond individual searches. Thomas is deeply engaged in how companies can make better leadership decisions, build effective boards and leadership teams, and develop organizations that are ready for the future. In addition to executive search, he advises companies and leadership teams on Board Advisory, governance, leadership, and succession planning.
Before founding Viavanta in 2016, Thomas led an established Swiss executive search firm, following several senior leadership roles with international companies. This combination of first-hand leadership experience, decades of advisory expertise, and an entrepreneurial mindset shapes his deep understanding of the people, organizations, and business realities behind every leadership decision.
Thomas also serves on several boards of directors, bringing first-hand experience to his advisory work. His board responsibilities deepen his understanding of governance, strategic decision-making, and the dynamics between owners, boards, and executive leadership.
In 2024, Thomas was appointed to Kestria’s Institute Council, where he represents Europe. As part of this international body, he contributes his experience to the strategic development of the global alliance and works closely with partners across more than 40 countries.
Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sales & Marketing. He is married, has two daughters, and lives in Davos. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time in the mountains, whether mountain biking, skiing, or hiking.
